Fish Crafts For Kids: Brown Paper Fish Tank

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Today I am sharing a fun brown paper fish tank activity for preschoolers and toddlers! Fish crafts for kids are some of my favorite crafts because the fish always turn out so cute and the blue water always pops. Dez and Skyla were super proud of the finished product. The great thing is that they took their time decorating the felt fish cutouts that I made for them.

The set up for this is super easy, but I did prepare the water tank the night before. I will explain more below. Using  materials that you may already have in the house, you should be able to set this activity up for some fun with the kids.  So take a look at how we did this toddler project quick and easy!

Brown Paper Fish Crafts For Kids

Fish Art Materials

1.Large roll of Brown Paper. I usually buy three or four at a time because they can be used for sooo many things but you can get thicker rolls online here.

2. Washable Paint for Kids- My favorite brand is Crayola washable paint. OR a blue dot marker (this is what I used)

3. I use paint tape to hold the paper down because it comes up easy and doesn’t leave residue behind.

4. Art smocks of art bibs for the kids if they will be painting the water. I currently use this smock but I’m looking to get one with sleeves like this one.

4. I used Foam Sheets for the fish! I LOVE this material because it’s easy to cut but also tough. Great for gluing.

5. Glue, glitter glue, cut out shapes, yarn, or anything you have at home to decorate with!

Fish Project Setup

1.I started by spreading the brown paper on the table and taping the edges to the table so the paper wouldn’t move. I set this up the night before so I wouldn’t have to worry about paint drying, but then I ended up using a blue dot marker and it dried instantly. lol. It took me 5 minutes to color the paper. Optional: I also cut up some green paper seaweed 🙂

2. The next morning i cut up some shape from paper and gathered the supplies for the kids.

3. I grabbed my foam squares and cut out multiple fish at one time. I did three different sizes and added the mouths and eyes.

4. As they glued, glittered, and decorated their fish, I did help to guide them with colors and placement, but mostly let them be creative 🙂

5. My last step was placing glue circles on the dried, painted paper so my daughter could place the fish on. She loved it.

Take a look at the how to with the pictures below!

All of your posts look amazing. I think my four year old would love to do some of the activities. The fish craft is so cute and I think he would enjoy creating the fish and designing an aquarium. It would be awesome to include some books that relate to fish too. Like Rainbow Fish! Love him!  Maybe a fiction and non fiction book. May need these ideas if school doesn’t follow thru this fall!

That’s an awesome idea! I will also include some books in this post! Yes I’m preparing for the worst. My son starts Kindergarten this year and his school will close at 5 Co I’d cases. I see that happening unfortunately
