Craft Materials
Materials needed for the Turkey Tape Pull Craft:
- A wall space within your toddler’s reach
- Painter’s tape in various colors
- Brown, red, orange, and yellow construction paper
- Scissors
- Googly eyes (or stickers for a safer alternative)
- Glue stick
Activity Preparation
Now, let’s break it down step by step:
Select Your Space
Find a suitable area on the wall that’s easily accessible to your toddler. Make sure it’s safe for them to reach and play without any hazards.
Make the Turkey’s Body
From the brown construction paper, construct a large circle for the turkey’s body. Use red, orange, or yellow paper for the beak, feet, and wattle. The glue stick will enable you to stick the googly eyes (or eye stickers), the beak, and the wattle onto the turkey’s body. Again, put on the legs at the bottom.
Attach the Turkey to the Wall
Once the turkey’s body is complete, use painter’s tape to securely stick it onto the wall at the center.
Create a Colorful Feather Array
Use the painter’s tape to create feather-like strips. Stick them all over the wall, with the ends sticking out so your kid can grab them.
Engage Your Toddler
Show them how to pull the tape feathers gently and let them have a go. They can pull and stick the tape back as many times as they like, making it a great repeatable activity.
Use this Thanksgiving turkey activity to teach colors, counting, and even parts of the turkey as they interact with the creation. Sensory play is great for toddlers, and the Turkey Tape Pull offers lots of different textures and colors. When playtime is over, simply remove the tape and construction paper turkey from the wall. Store them for future use or recycle the materials if they’ve worn out.
